My Mom and Grandmother has been making these incredibly delicious pickles for as long as I can remember.  They are so good, crispy, sweet and a little spicy.  They go perfectly on sandwiches, in tuna salad or just by themselves.  Trust me they are addictive!  You will be sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night just to grab a few, that good.  And If you make these once you might not ever stop!  Consider this your warning, ha!!  No seriously these are so good and a great addition to the boring ole sandwich!

Ingredients: 1 Gallon jar Sour Pickles, 1 4lb bag of sugar, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp Tabasco

1/4 tsp garlic, 1 lb sugar  and 4 dashes of Tabasco (more if you like it spicier)

Continue this with each layer of pickles

Once you get to the last layer you will need to push down on the pickles to add space

Once all the pickles sugar mixture is added rotate the jar until all the sugar is absorbed

Then let sit in fridge for one day and enjoy!

  1. These look great and I love pickles, but I have never seen the brand you are using to begin with. Are sour pickles like dill ones?

  2. I have made these and they are very good, but I use hamburger dill pickles that are already sliced. Saves having to slice pickles which takes forever! The amount of Tabasco can be adjusted according to taste. Sweet Pea is right, you can’t eat just one.

  3. You always have the greatest tutorials! It makes me feel like I could handle making them! My oldest son is a pickle nut and would eat them all the time if I let him. I’m gonna try it. Then I can act like I did some amazing thing and they’ll think I’m the best mom in the world! 🙂

  4. I’ve tried a lot of stuff, but I have never had the guts to do pickles.

My husband raves about these pickles from a restaurant that he remembers from his childhood in Toronto. These sound similar.

Maybe I’ll give them a try. If he’s nice. And says please.

  5. My husband and I are planning our first garden this summer. Hopefully I can talk him into growing cucumbers, so then I can try my hand at pickles.

  6. My son and I both love pickles! I’ve never made homemade ones though. This looks scrumptious! THanks for sharing!

    Have a great day!

  7. Here’s a mystery for you: I sneeze whenever I eat pickles.

Three little sneezes, and then I’m fine.

But these sound like they’d be worth the sneezing!

Thanks for participating in Food on Fridays with such a creative recipe and great instructions!

  8. I saw the wonderful pictures of your garden (I got to your blog from the Grocery Cart Challenge). I noticed you have carrots growing. I plant carrots EVERY year and never get a thing. Did you do anything special. Did you thin them a lot. Please tell me what you did to get your carrots to grow. What kind of seeds did you plant? I am in mid Missouri so we aren’t even thinking of planting yet, but I have my seeds ready 🙂
