Week 2 of the garden and we’ve had lots of rain and lots of growth. Though sadly enough the pictures are still not all that exciting. I so will give a brief run through.

Lots of little green sprouting up, it always makes me giddy!
The turnip greens are growing great, in a few weeks DT will go through and thin them.
*DT is my garden boy in case you were wondering, (chuckle, snicker, hee hee)
and whats this?? An animal intruder??? How could it have gotten past the Wrangler?
I am thinking the critter must have come in when I turned off the fence and forgot to turn it back on for a day or two, oops.
And the Critter in question? I have my suspicions it was Chloe
Moving on, check our the beautiful red sprouts from the beets! I am starting to get more and more excited about beets. Though I am not really sure what they taste like, hmm.

Oh pumpkin, my poor sad pumpkin……… I am slowly mourning its death, because I know it won’t be long.
I think all the rain we’ve had has just been a bit much for it.
The broccoli is growing tall and strong
The garden seems to be loving all this rain we’ve had.
I also noticed on our grape vine, we have one lonely bunch of grapes!! Amazing isn’t it?
and other news on the farm. We got new chickens!! Well actually we traded 3 of our mean chickens for 3 of the white Wyandottes.
It’s like Chicken peace now, no more chasing, picking, plucking or anything. They are getting along perfectly with Tail Feather.
She’s the leader of the pack, and her feathers are slowly growing back.
I have yet to name my new girls, it’s a little hard to tell them apart. But one interesting thing is they all have the tops of the beaks cut off.
These chickens were destined for an egg farm and they live in such tight quarters that they burn the tops of their beaks off to prevent them from peaking each other. I know its kinda sad to think about. But at least we have these girls now.
Oh I had some questions before about what are plans are with them. And we have them purely for the eggs (we are not going to eat the chickens, just the eggs).
On other news Cricket just got a haircut and super cute Halloween bandanna
So I asked her to pose for me.
and she wasnt’ too thrilled about it.
she’s a little shy, and doesn’t like to be the center of attention, too much!

Love the chickens and the kitty and adorable dog. ( love the garden too!) I spent a day cleaning out one of our beds yesterday. Still have the wildflower patch to mow down for the winter and weeding of the front beds. Lots of glorious work ahead.
A winter garden? Love the idea. All I’m going to grow in my garden this winter is snowmen. They pretty much maintenance free, and don’t chatter my ear off. It’s perfect.
I think it’s great you rescued those chickens. Poor little girls! Can they still eat with those mutilated beaks? So sad.

It’s so fun to watch a garden grow! My mom was just telling me earlier tonight on the phone that I used to go look at our vegi garden everyday before I went to school. It’s just so amazing to me how fast things grow! Thanks for sharing!
Cricket’s such a cutie! We’re taking Oscar in this weekend to get groomed – it’s been six months since his last appointment which means that his long hair is going to get totally wacked off. Poor little guy!
