The garden is still growing and producing extremely well, we haven’t had any rain in what seems like forever so I am watering about every other day.  I am also picking yellow and zucchini squash almost everyday and have had tons and tons.  Good thing we just love it.  I have some more zucchini recipes coming up but if you like check these out: Chocolate Zucchini Cake, Easy Zucchini Bake, Fish baked in foil, Goulash, Spaghetti with summer squash, and Zucchini Quesadillas.

See what I picked yesterday, that equals 2 large grocery sacks!

Here’s a front view of the garden week 6

lots of tomatoes on the vines, it will be another week or two before they start ripening.

Banana pepper bush

Lots of yellow squash

Even the bell peppers are growing along.

How about this large zucchini, I really should have picked it yesterday.  They grow so fast.

A few jalapenos starting to grow, which is great last year they didn’t start till almost July.

We even have some large pattypan squash growing.  Waiting for these to get huge so I can pan fry them, yum!  Expect a recipe soon, lots of pan frying going on around here.

The cucumbers are growing well, see all the yellow flowers those will all be cucumbers.

We have a few thumb sized ones so far.

I just had to show a few pictures of Izzy now know as Ozzy, I am almost 100% she is a he.

Just look at the size of that comb!  Males combs grown larger and redder much faster than females.

He’s such a cutie, but unfortunately he will be going to live at my In laws once he starts crowing, because we can’t have any Roosters in the city limits.

And now for Hatching news!!  Today is hatch day, though I’ve already had 3 hatch!  Much better than my last hatch.

First is my little speckled sussex, click on the link to learn more about the sussex and she what she will look like when she grows up.

Then I had my 1 and only silkie egg hatch, I couldn’t be happier I’ve wanted a silkie so bad!  And she looks to be blue, so cute.

Sorry not the best  picture, but she was a tucker out little thing.

Last but not least my cuckoo maran egg has hatched.  Hopefully she will grow to lay a dark chocolate colored egg.

I have 2 more pips and hopefully lots more activity today.

What veggie do you look most forward to?

I will be posting weekly of the garden so please click on each week for more details. Week 1, week 2, week 5

  1. Wow! Your garden looks so great! It looks like mid-July production 🙂 We’re just now getting little green flower buds on the tomatoes.

  2. My goodness. I’ve never been for a visit before and ‘m glad I came .
Your garden is awesome and prolific. The chickies are adorable . I hope you get a chocolate egg. Have a great day

  3. I can’t believe how fantastic y’alls garden looks. I’m pretty bummed that ours is having such a rough start. Our weather is the complete opposite of a Texas spring and early summer. For the past two weeks, we have had nearly non-stop rain. Our plants are literally dying for sunlight. I noticed today that some of them are starting to lose their color. They need some photosynthesis action and quick!

As for your question about veggies, if I’m basing that solely off what we have planted, I don’t have a broad choice but I’d choose the tomatoes. If I have my pick of any veggie, I’d say cucumbers or jalapenos.

  4. Uh-oh. I think I planted my cucs to far from my fence. Dang it, I might have to go dig them up and move them closer to the fence. Uhhhhh. Thanks for posting these pics, I have a good visual now. I canNOT believe how squash you have already! WOW! Beautiful garden!~

  5. I just went out and looked at my garden this morning after a windy and cool (50 degrees) night. I just planted my stuff in the ground Saturday. Many of the leaves are WHITISH! OMG, I’m having palipatations! Is my garden ruined???? It wasn’t cold enough to frost. I cannot believe this…but I know you’ll have the answer. Give it to me straight, lol. I *think* I can take it.

  6. Your garden is looking amazing, I wish mine would grow as fast. I’ve had lettuce peas and beans so far, but just can’t get the squash to grow this year because of the nasty cucumber beetles 🙁 I have huge tomatoes too but they are still green, they seem to take forever to ripen!
