I have missed a few weeks from posting our garden, because in this Texas summer heat mostly everything has started to shrivel up and die. Our cucumbers are gone, and few tomatoes plants. But our Okra, and peppers are thriving, I mean thriving. Our okra plants are literally as tall as I am. They had a super slow start but now, wow its crazy how fast they are growing. Our squash has slowed down big time, but I did notice 1 yellow squash and a few zucchini’s that will be ready to pick pretty soon.
I’ve had lots of fun creating and making new and oldies recipes with all our garden produce; here are a few of our favorites if your interested.

The tomatoes have slowed a bit, but still producing.
We have a few watermelon’s- this one is about the size of a volleyball, I can’t wait to see how they turn out.
Our eggplants are still doing very well. I have so much eggplant in the freezer its crazy!

What bounty! I’m jealous! You have to much heat and we don’t have enough (the high is in the 50s today!) Wouldn’t it be nice if we could exchange climates for a couple days?
I didn’t know that gardens puttered out due to heat. I’m a little less jealous of your climate today. 🙂
Oh, that spread of all the “hot” season veggies looks grand! My poor garden is suffering, and the cilantro I intended to grow and dry in the dehydrator has now flowered and the stems are stiff. *long sigh*
So much for my “plans” this summer!
I’m kind of heartened that you’re garden is doing as poorly as mine. I’m in the Houston area (west side of town), and my squash is pitiful, beans are dead, cukes are trying, but not doing much and tomatoes are passing quickly.
May I recommend canteloupe, if you like it? I experimented this year with two plants, and we’ve had at least one very large melon a week for about a month now. Each one has been delicious!
I’ve never had so much trouble with the cucumbers and squash. I was beginning to get a complex. You’ve made my day.
Well, we only had one Squash and it has died. I got enough from it over a short period to cook once. The cucumbers just keep on giving. They must like the heat and drought. The pepper is doing well. Has several pods that aren’t large enough to pick yet. The tomatoes are just starting to come in but are blooming so we should have them for at least another month. We ended up with 3 or 4 Okra stalks and they haven’t begun baring yet. You have a bigger garden than we do. I enjoy seeing what others are growing.

Wow! That’s quite a harvest. I didn’t do a vegetable garden this year, but I’m already planning one for next year!

Everything looks wonderful. We have a few tomato plants with about 7 small green tomatoes growing. I can’t wait to taste the first one.
I also love the photo of you boys in the tub – with beards! My boys are now men – 20 and 22. I miss those days!

Our garden is doing great. My husband is a regular Farmer Joe. I have already made fried green tomatoes from the tomatoes in the garden and we have eaten some of the collard greens, broccoli and cauliflower. It taste so much fresher than getting it from the store. We have already decided that we are going to expand our garden next year. I think that the veggies are doing so well because my husband has been composting since last summer.

Your garden has really produced a ton! It has been such fun to see all that you have grown.
I love your garden! We grew watermelons for the first time this year…It was a lot of fun watching them grow…just pulled them up b/c they were taking over the whole yard!! Love your blog and I will be back to visit!!! Megan
