I am happy to introduce this super silly (love the pic) couple Tim and Alice.  Alice blogs at Adventures of Alice, she is a Virginia gal living with her hubby in Scotland, how cool is that.  I’ve always wanted to visit. Alice and I have lots in common though we live so far away, she and I are both Shredders and yet we both love to cook, ha ha.  Work hard to cook huh, I get her.  Anywho, please stop by to check out her wonderful blog!

How did you meet? I studied abroad for my fall semester junior year at the University of Edinburgh. I wasn’t looking to meet anyone, but it just happened! I grew up playing basketball and volleyball, but basketball was my main sport. I wanted to join the University’s basketball club while I was in Edinburgh, but I was sick the day of try-outs, so I didn’t go. I decided to join the volleyball club instead. I got to the gym a bit earlier and there were a few other girls sitting there. No one showed up for a while until this 33 year old guy in a suit rushed in. I asked if this was the meeting for volleyball, and he said yes, and sorry he was late coming from work. I thought—great, some 33 year old reliving the glory days of high school volleyball is running this.

Turns out he was only 23 and a rather good coach. He was the guys coach, but took over coaching my team as well because our coach never really showed up. The volleyball team was really close and hung out a lot. So we were all friends, and I thought Tim was cute, but didn’t do anything about it because I was only in Edinburgh for a few months. But, we ended up going on a date about a month before I went back to the States, and then we were inseparable. We did the long distance dating thing using Skype, e-mails, letters and visiting as often as we could (lots of air miles!) and got engaged about a year after we met and then got married after a year and a half.

When did you know he was the one? When I went back to the States after that semester, I knew that Tim was the one. It hadn’t been very long, but it was right and completely different from anything else.

What is one of your favorite things to do together? Cook and then eat—we both agreed on this one! And after we cook and eat, I wallow because I’ve eaten too much and complain to Tim that he didn’t stop me.

What is something new you learned  about your spouse after you were married? Tim likes to buy anything new in the grocery store—new product or weird, new product, then it goes into the cart. We have a rule though: If Tim puts something into the cart that would normally be vetoed, and he gets it onto the belt at the check out line without me noticing, then he gets to keep it. He’s been very tricky lately and has learned how to hide things in the cart. Disaster strikes–he likes going to the store by himself when he can.

What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life? We laugh and act silly together.

What is your best piece of marriage advice? Two weddings are better than one—says Tim. We had a wedding in my hometown and then a blessing in Scotland. Seriously though, I’d say it’s very important to still be an individual within a marriage. You need your own friends and activities that are as important as the people and things you share. Then the time you spend together is special, and you have some different experiences and outlets. This is extremely important if one person in the marriage has moved to a new place (like me!).

What is your favorite quirk about your husband? He always thinks up new names for me. I never had nicknames from friends, but now I have tons of random names, and I love them because Tim came up with them. None of them usually make any sense, but all of them are endearing and loving in their own weird way. For example: Bison Rat, Little Evil, Wife Toy, Chollo, Beastie Poo, Fragola… So I’ve had to come up with my own responses and names for him—Cobra Dog, Big Evil, Husbando, Pollo, Beauty…

What is something special you do just for your husband? Every March is Alice Loves Tim Month. I try to do special things that don’t really cost much, but are creative and show him how important he is to me. For example, I made lots of posters this year and put at least one in every room of our flat. They say silly things like “Welcome to Alice Loves Tim Month”, and I wrote in bubble letters and crayons, so they’re goofy- like us. During March I try really hard to schedule in games nights or waffle mornings—fun things that we don’t always think to do but enjoy.

Tell us something about yourself.

I’m from Virginia, but have lived in Scotland for 3 years. I just discovered blogging earlier this year and started my own in April, and I’m really enjoying the writing and the reading aspects of blogging—so come say hello! I love to read and cook and will eventually become a fabulous history teacher!
