How did you meet? We are both from the same small town, so we always knew of each other. We actually “met” in Austin. One of my good friends was dating one of his. She was always telling me what a great guy he was and that we should hang out since we lived in the same town. She gave me his number and I called him one day. We went out a few times and before long we were spending all of our free time together.

When did you know he was the one? I don’t know if I ever had a split second realization. It was more of a gradual thing. All of a sudden I realized how big a part of my life he was. He was the first one I called when I was excited or upset about something. He became my best friend – the person I would turn to for everything. It was the same way with him – he started asking for my advice on major purchases or he’d ask for my “permission” before a guys’ night out even though he knew he didn’t need my okay. It was just his way of including me. That’s when I knew that he was something special.

What is one of your favorite things to do together? We go kayaking together (that’s actually how he proposed!) and we take our dog through the trails in Austin. It’s our time to just be with each other without any distractions. We always leave our cell phones behind (luckily he did brings his the day he proposed so I could call my parents)

What is something new you learned about your spouse after you were married? He is not a morning person at all. He’s very much the night owl and I’m in the early riser. It definitely takes him a little while to wake up before he’s his normal friendly self. He sets 3 different alarms (a fear of oversleeping I guess) and sometimes I just stand the bathroom doorway and laugh as I watch him try to turn off the wrong alarm.

What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life?We take time every day just to talk to each other – about work, family, etc. It might be over dinner, in front of the tv, or while we are doing yard work. No matter how busy we are, we make sure to have time for each other.

What is your best piece of marriage advice? Pick your battles. You don’t have to get upset about every little thing the other person does that isn’t the way you are used to it. Remember, you are not perfect either and there’s a good chance there’s something you do that annoys them as well. When we first moved into our new house, I got upset because Jason had gone and rearranged all of the food in the refrigerator after I had it the way I wanted it. I realized we were just trying to have things the way we were used to having them but sometimes you have to compromise – even if it is over which shelf the eggs should go on.

What is your favorite quirk about your husband? His laugh – it’s so distinguishable. I can always pick him out in a crowd. Anyone knows Jason knows he laughs a lot – which I also love because it keeps me sane. A few people have told me that his laugh is strange, but I adore it and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t get to hear it every day.

What is something special you do just for your husband? When he is stressed out, I’ll leave him a note before he goes to work just to tell him I love him and to have a great day. Or I’ll pick up his favorite candy or snack on my way home from work. I just like to do little things that he won’t be expecting.

Tell us something about yourself.

I’m 24 and I live in Austin, Texas. Sometimes I wish I was closer to my home town but I love Austin, and with time it has gotten to feel more like home than I could have ever imagined. I am a licensed CPA that knows nothing about taxes (which my dad is still amazed about). I work at a real estate investment company and I really enjoy it.

  1. Thanks for the interview – it was fun! I can’t believe I forgot to mention in there that we had to postpone our wedding due to Hurricane Ike!

I’ve been looking at a lot of blogs lately, including the commenters above and all I can say is I have a lot of work to do. Mine looks so amateur – I need to start brushing up on my blogging skills!

    Thanks again!

  2. What an adorable couple! Even though they haven’t been married very long, Sam already has some pretty good marriage advice about choosing your battles. It always helps to be reminded of that!

  3. Very pretty couple! Great dress! I like reading these because I remember doing a lot of this stuff for my hubby when we were first married. Now I’m all like…get it yourself! lol (not really, but kinda sometimes)

  4. Awwww, what an adorable couple!!! Great interview! I liked what she said about picking your battles…SO true! Just when I go to yell at Tim for something silly, I’ll stop myself and think “okay, him leaving a fork in the sink is NOT the end of the world…just put it in the dishwasher for him and leave it alone”. It definitely helps!!

  5. Everyone on here is so nice! Thanks for all the nice comments about the interview. It’s so funny because even tonight I found myself wanting to yell about something little – just have to breathe slowly and count to 10 and then you forget what you are mad about! Haha.
