How did you meet? In 2000 (I was a Junior in HS, and he had just graduated HS), Jonathan moved nine hours away to enter a program run by my church called Adventures in Missions.  While he was there, he worked with my youth group.  To this day, we actually still debate about how we first met.  My story (the truth) is that it was on the day that he was doing some crazy, impromptu skits with a guitar in the front of a large crowd.  Made me laugh like crazy, and I fell “in like” right then.

When did you know he was the one? This is debatable.  Whenever he moved away (after we had been friends for seven months), we had never dated or kissed, but when I watched him drive away, I cried on my bed for hours.  I had never done that, so I knew there was something there.  I guess I for sure knew he was the one when he started trying for months to win me back after he had broken up with me our freshman year of college.

What is one of your favorite things to do together? We love playing games together: card games, Cranium, Taboo, Wii Sports, softball/football catch, etc.

What is something new you learned about your spouse after you were married? That he talks in his sleep a lot.  At least once a week, I carry on a conversation with him while he’s asleep; I love it!

What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life? Jonathan comes home everyday for lunch, so this helps shorten the long work day.  Also, whenever we leave each other or get off the phone, the last thing we say to each other is “I love you”– no matter what’s going on, because we want that to be the last thing we hear, so we won’t have regrets.

What is your best piece of marriage advice? Praying together every night since we got engaged has built a great foundation for our marriage.  We can’t pray together when we’re frustrated/hurt/angry at each other, but our promise is to pray together each night.  So, we always make sure to resolve our differences before we go to bed, so everyday is fresh and happy with nothing hanging over our heads. We have never missed a night. Also, love isn’t a feeling that comes and goes; it’s a decision that you stick to no matter what.

What is your favorite quirk about your husband? Only one . . . it’s so hard to narrow it down.  I think I love most that he never knows the real words to songs, but he just kinda jabbers along or makes up his own words.  I start giggling, which eggs him on to be sillier, but then he starts laughing. This is my favorite: to see him laugh.

What is something special you do just for your husband? I make him desserts because it’s his “love language”.  I also rub the back of his head, and he leans into it like a puppy dog.  So cute.

Tell us something about yourself. My desire is to be a Marriage and Family Therapist, but for now, I stay home with my gorgeous 17 month old daughter.  I love her daddy with my whole heart and am in awe daily that someone as amazing as him wants to be my best friend and husband. I am incredibly blessed to them both in my life.
