I am happy to introduce a lovely couple Donald and Sarah.  They are expecting their first baby very soon in fact she is 37 weeks along and as cute as a pregnant button.  I just love pregnant bellies, they are so perfect.  Sarah began a personal blog called Becoming Sarah soon after they found out they were expecting.  She chronicles it all with such grace, humor and enthusiasm, almost makes me want another one, almost. You have to check out a couple of  my favorite posts of her’s because they are so darn true like a case of a blue body part (no I am not brave enough to list it, my grandma reads this), birthing hips, and leaking milk.  On to the interview.

Becoming Sarah

How did you meet?

Donald and I met when we were young and stupid enough to date co-workers.  To this day, I think that the best thing for our relationship was that I stopped working at the company on a whim.

When did you know he was the one?

Shortly after we began seeing one another exclusively, I packed my bags and moved to France.  The entire time that I lived and worked abroad, our relationship was long distance.  Some weeks, we spent more money on phone cards and postage stamps than we did on groceries.

Out of the blue, Donald decided that he was going to fly to France to visit me.  He took ten days of paid vacation time and booked a round trip flight without telling me.  It remains, without a doubt, the sweetest and most romantic gesture of our entire relationship.

I knew Donald was THE ONE when I forgot to pick him up at the airport and showed up over an hour late.  When I got there, the poor man was sitting on the luggage carousel in a completely empty terminal.  I immediately burst into tears, but instead of being angry or disappointed, Donald was just happy to see me.

Anybody who can forgive me for nearly abandoning him in a foreign country is worth keeping around, right?

What is one of your favorite things to do together?

We both love being outdoors.  We take evening walks and weekend day-hikes with our dog, Hank, all the time.  We also both love rock climbing.

Right now, we’re less than a month from the delivery of our first child.  One of our favorite things to do lately has been to guess whose features the baby will have.  Hopefully the kid has, for example, my husband’s straight nose and my eye color.  And hopefully the kid does not have my crooked teeth or my husband’s Dumbo ears.

What is something new you learned about your spouse after you were married?

When he was a kid, he set off a firework in his bedroom.  AWESOME.

What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life?

We make sure that we sit down to eat dinner together every night.  When we first lived together, neither of us was very strict about eating meals together, but we’ve since learned that taking a little bit of time from our days just to reconnect really goes a long way.

What is your best piece of marriage advice?

Let sleeping dogs lie.

I mean that both figuratively and literally.  First of all, most things are not worth fighting over.  And secondly, may there be mercy for the poor soul who dares wake one of us up.

What is your favorite quirk about your husband?

Donald cannot start his day without cleaning his ears.  More than once, that man has made a grocery run at 6:00 A.M. because he ran out of Q-tips and cannot FATHOM going to work without clean ears.  I think he’s insane, but it is pretty cute.

What is something special you do just for your husband?

I buy him black licorice a couple times a year.  I hate the smell of black licorice, so I’m pretty sure I should receive a WIFE OF THE YEAR award for being so kind.

Tell us something about yourself.

My favorite color is green.  Today, I favor olive green.  Yesterday, I preferred lime green.  Tomorrow, I might fall in love with a nice bright clover.  But no matter what, it is always green.

Sometimes this backfires.  I will pick lime Jell-O or enchiladas in green sauce purely because the box or the sauce is GREEN! GLORIOUS GREEN!  You would think by now that I would have learned that I prefer orange Jell-O and I really don’t like green sauce at all.

Sadly, that appears to be a lesson I will never remember when the time comes for me to pick a Jell-O flavor or an enchilada sauce.

Hope you join us for next weeks rendition of Meet the Newlyweds.  If you interested in being a featured couple or know of a newlywed blogging couple, please leave me a comment.
