Why is it when you want and desperately need rain, it doesn’t rain, and then when you don’t need rain, it rains everyday for weeks?

The past 3 weeks we have gotten so much rain, and we haven’t been able to plant our winter time garden (check out that link its to our garden last year).

And its amazing that the plants we do have planted, haven’t drowned.

Take for instance my 2 pumpkin plants, as you can tell a nasty worm, had his way with one of my plants, ugh.  But at least it didn’t drown, it could be because everyday during the rains, I run out and create strategic trenches so the water will run off the garden, so far its working.

at least there are a few blooms, I hope they will make it.

And all this standing water, makes it a bit impossible to till up the garden.

As for our experimental yellow squash and cucumbers, they seem to be doing good!

Cucumbers

And our jalapenos are still doing great, DT wants some Bacon Wrapped poppers this weekend.  Similar to Pdub’s recipe

As for our cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts plants, they aren’t holding up too well, and it seems some worms have gotten to them as well.

Woe is me!  I’ve got the garden blues.  Crossing my fingers we will be able to plant this weekend!!

Please be sure to gather up your pumpkin posts and enter my pumpkin round-up next Monday  see here for more details!

  1. I can relate. We had a very wet spring and early summer this year and I lost so much of the garden. And our sunflowers just mildewed.
    MMMM bacon poppers! YUM.

  2. My garden is just as bad here in Texas. Amazingly though I’m still getting lots of peppers from my summer garden. Good luck, I’m right there with you. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Your garden still seems good even through the worm and the rain! I hope you get the rain if you want it now. Good luck on your beautiful garden! Have a wonderful Friday!

  4. And here I was just thinking how lazy I have been becuase I haven’t gotten out into my beds to clean them out for winter! I would love to be able to have a winter garden! Where I live if you don’t have an evergreen planted you have NOTHING after November 1st. And some years that’s even pushing it.
I am going to try to remember your pumpkin patch post, I love pumpkins too, so this one sounds like fun!
    See you Monday!
If you’d like to stop by my blog I’m at Cake Crumbs.

  5. Good luck. Your summer garden was so awesome. Here’s hoping for great successes for the winter garden, as well.

  6. It looks like you have lots of water in the garden. It will take a while for all that to dry up. We had a rainy summer and fall here as well. My tomatoes did great…we had a bumper crop, but there other veggies, not so good.

  7. I’ve got the blues too. Our outdoor garden didn’t do well at all this year and it has been so nasty outside, we haven’t had a chance to go out and treat it so next year is better.

  8. I keep waiting for my summer garden to die but can you believe the tomatoes and the zucchini are still growing? Oh and the green beans have suddenly sprung back to life. Despite the fact that I have not watered anything in 3 months…they still keep producing. All I can think is that the little bit of rain we’ve had sporadically has been enough to keep them sustained.

I hope your garden dries up quickly so you can get started on your winter garden!

I’m excited about the Pumpkin round-up tomorrow…will you have the link up tonight or tomorrow morning?
