This week on the Food Network Chef’s Challenge (FNCC) hosted by I Blame my Mother is Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes.  And because he’s a famous cake decorator this week our challenge is to decorate a cake or share a cake we have previously decorated.    I have made quite a few cakes in my day, but cake decorator I am not.  I can make them taste great, but looks and icing are not my gig actually I really suck at it if you’d like to know the truth.

But since I am on a sugar free diet (until Christmas) I choose not to make a cake at this time.  But I do want to share with you some of my favorite cakes.  All slightly decorated.  Please be sure to click on the links to see the full posts.

Cake Balls– a fun new way to eat cake and icing

Caramel Cake– a super sweet delicious cake and icing made with real homemade caramel!

Chocolate Valentino– also known as a flour less cake, of the chocolaty goodness this is a must have.

Mardi Gras King Cake– A fun Mardi Gras tradition, it like a mix between a cheese roll and strudel, delicious!

Red Velvet Cupcakes– My mom is still begging me to make these again, the perfect red velvet cupcake with mascarpone cream cheese icing, just heavenly.

Strawberry Cake– DT’s all time favorite cake.

Yule Log– not sure if anyone (besides me and Daring Bakers) is every crazy enough to attempt this 8 hour long process of 6 layers ice cream cake.  Was is delicious yes words can’t describe, each layer unique and wonderful. Will I ever make it again, probably not!

  1. I think that Daring Bakers challenge would be one of my “I think I’ll sit out on this one” recipes *L* That strawberry cake looks absolutely fabulous… I’m drooling all over myself!

  2. @mub, I know in retrospect I am glad I did it, I learned alot, but don’t think I will ever ever ever try to make it again. It was exhausting!

  3. Love the new layout! Where to begin? They all look yummy. I recently made a red velvet with cream cheese marscapone frosting and it was heavenly – not sure I can go back to just cream cheese. Cake balls are always a favorite. The Caramel cake and Choc. flourless cakes are so pretty. But I am off to check out that strawberry cake. Can I eat it for breakfast??? Thanks for playing along! 🙂

  4. Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope to see you back sometimes.
These cakes look delicious! I’m going to try making some cake balls this year.
