Winner has been chosen.

I was contacted from Abigail Pogrebin to see if I would like a copy of her book, One and the Same and offer a giveaway on my blog for my readers.  I jumped at the chance.  Abby is a Yale graduate, author, television producer and most importantly an identical twin. Abby’s identical twin is Robin Pogrebin, is a culture reporter for the New York Times.

I received my copy of the book a few days later and immediately began reading.  Her book covers all the spectrum’s of twins relationships through interviews of other Identical twins and interview’s between herself and her sister Robin.

As a parent of Identical twins this insight into being an identical twin was enlightening and also a bit scary.  Each interview she did brought and entirely new perspective on twinship.  She talks with couples whom never married live together and rely on their twins, to twins whom haven’t spoke in years.

I gather some helpful tips on how I want my boys to be raised and a particular tip on letting them have their own experiences.  Abby share how her and Robin were never separated and always did things together so much so that when she was 20 years old and went for the first alone trip with her parents and not Robin, she felt uncomfortable to be alone with her own parents.  This really stood out to me.  Uncomfortable with her own parents.  So DT and I will encourage separateness and togetherness in equal balance with our boys and try to give them their own experiences in life.

She even interviews famous Identical Twins Ronde and Tiki Barber who are both professional football players whom are so close to this day they admit their twin ship comes before their own wives.  Which I found quite unique that their bond is so strong.

Abigail also includes the newest research and interviews with top specialist in twin research and genetics, ranging from fertility specialist to disease study and why one twin will get a disease like cancer and the other not.

This book was jammed packed full of every twin topic you can think of and so interesting to read I simply didn’t want to put it down.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the relationship details between Abigail and Robin.  They divulge their childhoods closeness and unity and then their more separate lives as adults with families.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Even if you don’t have multiples you should read this book, that’s how great and informative it is, and one lucky reader you have a chance to win a copy of One and the Same.

Thank you again Abby for this amazing book!

  1. My favorite fact that I have known about twins is the emotional attachment each has whether married or single. They may be apart for a time but they gravitate toward each other, not in time of need, but just to be with each other. It may be similar to how close sisters feel about each other. They do not have to spend every day together but they must stay connected in some way to feel balance in this world.

  2. Hey! This books sounds so interesting! I would love a chance to win a copy of the book. Unfortunately, I don’t have any fun twin facts. I am fortunate that the only twins in my family are your boys!!

  3. I just wanted to say thank you to “Newlyweds” for a generous review — I’m so glad the book engaged you and resonated in the ways I hoped. I’m grateful that you took the time to read it immediately and I look forward to reading comments from your readers! Gratefully, Abby Pogrebin

  4. I’ve been wanting to read this book! Even though my own twins aren’t identical I still think I could learn some things by reading this book!

  5. I have never heard of the book but I have always been fascinated with twins and multiples and how they interact with each other. Although I know very few twins it is very interesting to me finding out about them.

  6. I had heard of this book around the time the boys were born and then forgot about it until I saw it on your blog. I am actually very interested in reading it, so even if I don’t win, I will go buy the book.
I have worried about raising identical twins. What better way to make some decisions than to hear from people that lived it.
The thing I find so interesting about being a mom of identical twins (granted they are only 6 months old) is how different they are. They have different sleeping and eating needs and they have distinct personalities. It will be fun to watch them grow up!

  7. I have twin boy nephews, not identical, and twin grandbaby boys that are identical. I haven’t been able to have children of my own but I’ve been apart of childrens lives all my life. Twins seem to have a very tight bond and most seem to grow up with an unique relationship. I remember my sister in law wanted to raise her boys as individuals and not always about them being twins. I would love to have a copy of ‘One and the Same’. It would be a very interested reading. Thank you ‘Sweat Pea’, I’ve enjoyed reading about your boys.
    Thank you, nanades

  8. I have an identical twin sister and we have always been very close. Just the other day, I sent an email and she was composing one to me about the same subject. Weird small things like that and the fact that we know each other so well is the best. I would love to read this book! My twin and I have started a blog and I’d love to start posting twin things on it too. 🙂

  9. I have an identical twin sister and we are the BEST of friends. I love being a twin! When we were babies, our parents said that we talked to each other in our own language. Wish I had that on video! Even though we live 500 miles apart, it’s amazing how close we remain and how often we have the same thoughts. I can’t wait to read this book! 🙂
