Just a typical hot August summer day, and the boys wanted to play outside and were we do just about anything to survive the heat.

I put a sprinkler out for the boys to play with, water the grass and

the chickens also enjoy walking in the cool water and getting a cool drink.

Minnie the Minocra enjoyed a quick bask in the sun.

and the littles enjoyed a cool dirt bath, in the shade.

Ginnie the Guinea, was on the hunt for a bugs and worms in the newly watered ground.

Little W got a somewhat cool breeze dressed in his skivvies on the swing.

Little H enjoys played in the water and dirt and squirting me when he felt the need.

I found some eggs waiting to be picked.

Cricket kept guard over the yard in the cool dirt and shade.  She’s taken duty as our official squirrel guard, she can spot them a mile away.

How do you beat the heat, outside?

  1. We have also spent a lot of time in the sprinklers this summer, with heat in the 100s now we are staying inside as much as possible.

  2. OH, the HEAT! Dang it’s awful! You know, down here in south Texas we can look forward to and are GUARANTEED a tiny, small handful of day this fall where it will feel good outside and like something looks in a movie. Then it will be bitterly cold for about a week and then a couple of days of spring and it’s summer again for 11 months.
OK, BUT THAT’S HOW IT FEELS! 😉

  3. Now I want chickens AND babies. You’re blog is terrible for my yearnings Jenna. I’ve been bugging Rich about chickens all week. If I start in about babies, he is going to ground me from reading it soon! 😉

  4. Aww swinging in the skivvies was always so much fun! Its not the heat that’s a killer here in Georgia, though at 100 degrees its bad, its the HUMIDITY. Best way to beat that, in a Jeep with the top down and doors off driving in the mountains! Or the pool…

  5. I love that the chickens joined you all in beating the heat! We went to our neighborhood pool A LOT this summer to keep cool! It’s a surefire way to keep the kids happy…and we both know, when the kids are happy, everyone’s happy.
