Today is the last day of Holiday Treats week, I am so happy with the wonderful response and links you all have shared.  I am sure my hips will thank me later…

I decided to share this Pumpkin Pie cocktail recipe I found from a blogging friend of mine Susie’s Homemade.  With my love for all things pumpkin and love of cocktails, I knew I had to try it.  But wow does this drink pack a punch, it’s more like a martini.  So I did make a few changes to the recipe to make it more drink friendly for some of the less stout alcohol drinkers.  It’s creamy, nutty, fall-ish all packed into a pretty little glass.

A neat thing about this recipe is you have to infuse your vodka with pumpkin and spices.  So 4-5 days prior to serving.

You need Vodka, pumpkin puree, vanilla, nutmeg and a large 1 1/2 quart mason jar

Mix all the ingredients into the mason jar.

Shake well and set aside for a few days, shaking maybe once a day.

When you ready to serve, line a mesh strainer over a large bowl

Cover with cheesecloth

and strain it out.

Once it looks like the majority of the liquid is strained.

Squeeze the rest out yourself.

Pour back into your mason jar and you have a beautiful pumpkin vodka.  Another way I like to use the vodka is to add a splash to my glass of red wine, it gives it a slight “fall-ish” flavor from the nutmeg and pumpkin, yum!

To serve splash orange liqueur into your martini glass, swirl around and pour out.

Then add to a shaker, ice, 1 part pumpkin vodka, 1 part half and half, cover and shake well.

Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.  Enjoy!

  1. Could you use Everclear in place of the Vodka to create a “Pumpkin” Moonshine? Wondering what the difference would be (other than the alcohol proof). Thinking this would be great with whipped cream vodka added and the everclear…curious your thoughts 🙂
