The other morning I walked out to let the chickens out and check on them, when I came across this sight.

If you can’t quite tell what’s going on that is four girls all trying to squeeze into the nesting box at the same time. For whatever reason they all think the far right box is the perfect spot to lay an egg, never mind the 6 other boxes.
Even two more girls are waiting in the wings for their turn.

If you look closely you can see Blondie (far right) has already begun pushing.

So as to not gross anyone out too much, I didn’t necessarily focus on the act, but you can see that pretty little blue egg poking out.

and plop, she laid it.

What a way to lay an egg.

I think it is so cute how much you love those chickens. I have always wanted chickens. But it looks like a lot of hard work so I’ll pass for right now.

@Marquita, Actually they don’t take much work at all, just feeding, water and plenty of love, lol!! The initial set up the coop is the hardest part, but after that its so much fun.

I have never seen anyone capture the actual laying of an egg in pictures before. Good job!

@Beth in the Woods, I’ve got chickens to spare. Do you live in my neck of the woods?

That looks much easier than giving birth, lol. I’d have to say I’ve never seen a chicken lay an egg before either.

Fascinating! I love it. And I think it’s nice of the chickens to put all the eggs in the same spot for you.

Holy Cow! Sort of like birthing a baby. Oh wait! She sort of is!

I love being a chicken mama! The Bombshells love the goodies leftover from dinner prep (the dogs are very jealous) and my neighbors are enjoying their myriad noises as well as the occasional fresh eggs. Chickens are even more fun than I thought they’d be
