The Chicken Wrangler

April 20, 2010

New skills are developing on “the farm”.  The art of Chicken Wrangling has taken hold in Little H’s heart.

His victim, Sally.  While she doesn’t seem to mind being held for long periods of time I can’t help but laugh (and be proud) at his enthusiasm.  My love of animals has passed down to my little fellows.  I just love that.

But back to the Sally situation.  Little H is intent on carrying her around in the most awkward of way, one arm under her neck, and one up her butt.

I must admit that takes a pretty good chicken to allow this to go on for any amount of time.

But Sally loves her boys and the attention, which in her mind might lead to snacks and that’s always a good thing.

*Don’t worry Little H’s hands were thoroughly washed after this.

You’re such a great mommy!!! And Sally was so sweet to let him hold her like that. So cute!

I love this. I have never known chickens to be so docile as to be picked up and carried around like that, but I guess if you raise them from when they’re chicks you can do whatever you like and they’ll think it’s normal ;)

@mub, I know before raising chickens for myself I had no clue, but actually we didn’t get Sally until she was about 5 months old. She’s just naturally sweet, plus we do pet them almost everyday, which helps.

Your helper is adorable! Future veterinarian in the making?

I’d love to say I’m petting my chicks every day so they’ll be docile, but I feel like I’m on permanent pooper-scooper duty with our brooder :) Sigh. It can’t last forever!

That Sally is definitely a keeper! I can’t believe she lets the boys carry her around like that…but I guess the snacks they give her must be worth it!

He’s soooooo gonna love that you took that picture…it’s adorable!

I think it’s so funny that she lets herself be carried around like that. What a good chicken.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea that chickens were so social! I thought patience was something that was limited to mammals, but obviously I was wrong.

Isn’t it awesome that we’re seeing wonderful traits in our babies? Grace is only sometimes kind to animals. It’s a work in progress.

I’ve never heard of a chicken that friendly… I didn’t realize they could become pet-like. How interesting!

What adorable pictures!

We just bought 7 baby chicks and 2 baby ducks this week. Our boys are SO excited and I’m so excited to have farm fresh eggs in 6 months.

I do not think my little boy is carrying Sally around for fun I think he is looking for a soup bowl to put her in for DADDY and I will be flying in tomorrow so he had better hurry!HAHAHAHA
