I was playing around with my setting’s on my camera the other day and skeeter was my perfect subject. See Pioneer Woman gave a great tutorial about what the different setting on your camera do like the A & S. I had no clue, but I am loving the results. I mostly shot my pictures in auto and sometimes the closeup mode, but I am venturing out and trying to learn.
This shot was taken with the A for Aperture setting, which in short is good for portrait style shots, the focal point is clear (Skeeters face) and the background is blurry.
She also taught us about the S setting for Shutter speed, in which the camera shutter determines the speed by the amount of movement in front of it. If that makes sense, but its great for shooting animals who hardly ever sit still, like Pesky the Chicken. It also great for action or sports shots.
For instance this shot of skeeter was taken with my auto setting, see how its blurry because he is moving.
Well this shot was taken with the S setting, now its still not the best shot ever but I can totally see how much clearer and less blurry it is.

Wow, the 1st picture of your dog is beautiful. I like how the background is blurred but you can see every detail of him so well.
Landon broke my camera so we need to get a new one. I’ll be sure to try to figure out how to use it right away…considering I never bothered to read the manual on my other one and that explains why my pictures always sucked.

You had some great test subjects! The best I’ve found to learn a camera is to just play around with it. Eventually you’ll get the hang of it.

I totally agree with Allison above.. Play around and take photos of the same subject at different settings and different lighting..It’s really fun and you learn while doing it!!
Love the chicken! We had a chicken named Chick Chick and she has since past but had a gimp foot so she walked around the barn yard all day with a gangster walk..haha

Isn’t it amazing what a couple little things like aperture and shutter speed can do?
I think the very best way to learn is to just play around with the various settings and pay attention to what your aperture and shutter speed are doing with those settings. Remember if you need more like that you can always increase the shutter speed.
Once you start to get a feel for what the different settings do, start playing around in manual. It might be scary to begin with, but it will open up an ENTIRELY new world for you once you figure it out and allow it to become second nature.

No tips, but great pics! One of these days I’m gonna get me a fancy schmancy camera. My point and shoot just doesn’t do much for me. Lots of settings but…ehhhh.

Love the pictures! This makes me really excited to see the kind of photos you can take with this sort of camera. My husband and I just bought a Canon Rebel Xsi, and it is being delivered by FedEx today! Can’t wait to play around and see what we can do with it.
