WOW!!! So jealous that you can have a winter garden...just gets too cold in the Northwest to do much of anything during the fall and winter. I did a ton of things w/beets this summer. My favorite is to pickle them, but the rest of my family won't eat them. I make "pink" pancakes for my kids w/a plain, cooked beet puree and they LOVE them. I also just found a recipe that I'm dying to try for "raspberry" perserves. It is mainly cooked down beets and beet juice w/the addition of some raspberry Jello...if you want the recipes...just let me know! Good luck w/ the garden!! ~Diana

Winter Garden... two words you just don't hear in the same sentence around here. ;) I picked two more zucchini yesterday, and still have lots of green tomatoes, but I don't know if they will ever ripen. It's too cool now, but we haven't had a frost yet.

I love love love your garden...always inspires me. I am ripping my garden out ( the rest of it) hopefully today and then putting it away for the winter so to speak.
Those are adorable chickens!!!!!! Are you raising them for meat or eggs or both or pets?

Your winter garden looks wonderful....you're all set! Cole and Bella came home from kindergarten a few days ago with little planters that they had planted a pumpkin seed in. One of them is actually growing so they convinced me to plant pumpkin seeds in the garden area. I have no clue if they'll grow but we'll see.

I had no idea you could grow carrots and broccoli at this time of year!!! I just finally ripped out the last of the zucchini and tomato plants...they would NOT stop growing. We're all so sick of zucchini and tomatoes that I finally just pulled them out. It's like they had a life of their own or something.

This is wonderful! It reminds me of when I was young and I would go to my grandpa's farm and help him pick vegetables. Those were some of my best memories. And there is nothing like preparing the food that you helped plant and then pick. It's amazing. And it's so wonderful your boys will get to have that experience too. Living here in San Antonio my girls will probably never get to experience that. Thank you so much for sharing! -April

I'm so jealous! Gardening season is long over up here in Wisconsin and it freezes so solid in Winter that I can't think about a winter garden. In fact, it's snowing again today.
