Watermelon Rind

July 15, 2009

My grandparents had horses when I was a little girl, and we use to keep my first horse Ginger in their pasture.  Every summer we would have watermelon; lots and lots of watermelon, but besides eating it ourselves, my favorite part was to feed the leftover rind to the horses. They loved the rind and I loved that they loved the rind, I still remember the sound of them crunching through it. Unfortunately I don’t have horses anymore.

Now I have two little boys.

I think they like the rind also!

I kid I kid, they only took a few bites of the rind by accident, and then this happened

They mostly ate the actual red melon part

it sure did help when it came to the potty later on, you know all the water in watermelon.

It really makes you have to go!

When I click on your Mr. Linky, I get a 404 error. I’ve switched to MckLinky. It doesn’t seem to have as many problems. Just sharing. 🙂

Nothing like some watermelon in the summer (or fall, or winter…). I remember a friend feeding watermelon rinds to his pigs and horses too. Some people pickle the rinds and eat them. I haven’t tried that, but it sounds interesting.
