Meet the Newlyweds!

February 12, 2009

It’s almost Valentines day and with all the love in the air I have decided to start a weekly post all called Meet the Newlyweds full of  romance, real life  and all the good stuff.  Considering this is the name of my blog and all, and though I have been married a little  less than 3 years now I still consider us Newlyweds.

So here we go, each week I will interview a newlywed or a not so newlywed blogging couple. This will be fun, we will meet lots of newlyweds bloggers.

To kick off the first week its us the Newlyweds!!!

How did you meet? At a good friends wedding shower my friend’s sister said she had someone for me to meet, I was reluctant but she was insistent so I said you can give him my number, since I was still in college and we lived over 4 hours away from each other.  Well a few days after that I received a call from DT, I ignored it not knowing if I really was interested, then he called two more times and on the 3rd call I answered.  We spoke on the phone for over 3 hours and then every day after.  We decided to meet two weeks later on Halloween.  We had a date to go to dinner and then meet with our mutual friends later at a bar.  I knew I already liked him a lot before I even saw him, so I was so nervous.  Once I saw him that was it and I’ll never forget when he opened the door he said WOW.  I was putty in his hands!

When did you know he was the one? I don’t remember an exact moment, but I think I just felt so comfortable, safe and happy with him it was almost instantaneous.

What is one of your favorite things to do together? We love to cook and spend quite time alone together.  Cuddle, watch movies and be silly.  Life has changed quite a bit since the birth of the boys but we know that alone time together is very important.  Though it might not be as often as we wish it were some times.

What is something new you learned  about your spouse after you were married? I learned that he was a bit of a neat freak which I don’t mind and he helps out a lot around the house.

What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life? We take time in the evenings to just be together, either watching TV, cuddling, massaging each others feet or backs or taking a shower together.  Sometimes it just a few spare moments that we have together we have to make the most of with our very busy lives.

What is your best piece of marriage advice?Communication.  You have to have communication in order to have a successful marriage.  Though we aren’t perfect and we have trouble communicating at times, we realize when we really say what we feel that is all it takes to be open and honest with one another.

What is your favorite quirk about your husband? I love that he always keeps me on my toes.  Always something new and exciting with him.

What is something special you do just for your husband? I like to pamper him, little things like make his favorite dinner, leave love notes in his lunch box, you know birthed his children, little things like that, ha!!

Tell us something about yourself. Before I met DT I was very guarded always trying protect myself and not letting my guard down worried about getting hurt in relationships.  But I can honestly say letting my guard down and allowing DT to come into my life has been one of the greatest things I have every done.

I can’t wait to Meet the upcoming Newlyweds.  I hope you all come back for next  weeks rendition of Meet the Newlyweds.

I will give you a hint, her name is Kay,  any guesses?

Cool new feature! Shane and I will be married TWENTY years next week. It still amazes me. I’m not even old enough to be married 20 years! lol. (or so it seems. )

I love this feature! I’m looking forward to meeting lots of Newlyweds!

I totally felt the same way about staying guarded in any relationship before I met my husband. But I guess being guarded wouldn’t work well in any marriage, so I guess it’s about needing to find someone you feel comfortable enough with to show your real self.

What a beautiful picture!!! And this interview was very enlightening. My husband and I have been married for almost 7 years and it’s much harder than I ever imagined. We struggle on most days to find nice words to say to one another. This post was a great reminder that communication is key and to focus on the reasons that brought us together in the first place!

Wow! I love this blog… and, I’m not quite the mushy type, but the post was so wonderful. I like to hear when bloggers find great insights to make their blog better. And this, for your blog, is awesome. I mean, I think it’ll bring so many people hear. I’m going to add you to my faves on my blog (if you don’t mind) b/c visiting here just touched my heart. Thanks for sharing.

What a fun idea! We’d love to be included somewhere down the line in this series. My husband and I were married in May 2008, so we’re still newlyweds!
